Is it a legal requirement to have abrasive wheels training?

Health and safety legislation mandates that anyone using abrasive wheels in the workplace is required to prove they have had adequate training to show safety in grinding. Adequate training means the course must be accredited or certified to act as proof to the HSE if asked.

How much does an abrasive wheels course cost?

The training course costs from £195 + VAT per person based on 5-6 people attending. For larger groups, speak to our team and we can tailor our training to suit your requirements.

What qualification will I receive at the end of the course?

After successfully completing the course, attendees will receive LANTRA certification. All Hush Farms instructors are qualified to the LANTRA and City and Guilds standards.

LANTRA Accredited Abrasive Wheels Training

Description

This Lantra-accredited abrasive wheels training course covers everything needed to safely and effectively use angle grinders, grinding wheels, cut-off saws, disc cutters and grinding machines. The course also provides theory training on legislation such as PUWER 1998 and the safe use of cutting and grinding equipment in the workplace.

Course Information – Abrasive Wheels Training

Our LANTRA accredited training covers a wide range of skills, safety considerations and technical aspects. This training is perfect for anyone using abrasive wheel tools on a regular basis, who needs to prove competency for the HSE.

Trainees will need

A packed lunch
Non-snag, non-flammable clothing appropriate to the weather conditions (you should not wear fleece-type material)
Strong work boots
Safety goggles
Ear defenders
Gloves

Course needs

Suitable machines and a selection of wheels with appropriate power supplies and tools for adjustment
The operator's manual for machine(s) provided
An indoor workshop area with adequate lighting and a work-bench suitable for using machines
Suitable seating for the theory session

LANTRA registration and certification.
We also provide NPTC assessment only – please contact us for details. This takes approx. 2 hours per person. It is for experienced operators of abrasive wheels requiring an update certificate to comply with Health & Safety legislation. It assumes suitable equipment is available at the venue and that candidates have prior operating experience and do not require training, or have existing but expired certificates. Refresher training can be arranged at an additional cost.
Please note: minimum course age is 16 years.

The Legal Bit

Anyone using abrasive wheels in the workplace must have proof of adequate training from a qualified person. They must also have periodic updates for this training. None of this is optional, either, it's the law and it applies to volunteers, employed and self-employed people.

The affordable Abrasive Wheels training courses at Hush Farms covers the tools you regularly use - from portable electric hand-helds, to bench mounted or petrol driven machines.

We don't just provide the abrasive wheels training, but the assessment too – our courses are accredited by LANTRA or NPTC – and it's all designed to fit your individual needs. Plus, the training courses are recognised by HSE, so you can ensure you're complying with the right legislation such as the Provision of Use of Work Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98). We cover safe working practices and safety considerations required in the cutting/grinding process.

Our training courses are designed to be delivered at your place of work with your own machine(s), so your equipment and facilities will need to be available for the entire course. If it's easier, though, we can arrange a different venue, or you can come to one of our sites in Devon or Wales for your abrasive wheels training.
