Rodent Management Training: Course Information
Changes to legislation governing the purchase and use of rodenticides mean that only individuals who hold a certificate of appropriate training can purchase professional bait above 1.5kg. Most professional rodenticides are sold in 3kg quantities or more, which means certification is both a compliance and a practical necessity.
We provide two training options:

Workshop: A group session of 12 people minimum, or we’ll come to you and deliver training in-house (10 am – 3 pm)

Who is rodent management training for?
This course is suitable for anyone involved in rodent and vermin control in a professional capacity. Alongside pest control contractors, this could also be farmers and farm managers, property managers, gamekeepers or livery managers. This training is also useful for businesses that currently outsource their pest control, as the preventative skills learned on the course can significantly reduce contractor costs.

The training will include theory and practical activities during the day and provide you with an understanding of why it is necessary to control rodents, the biology and behaviour of rodents and legislation associated with rodent control. You will understand what information is required when carrying out a survey and the non-chemical methods available to control rodents, as well as the current rodenticides and formulations. The training will also look at how rodenticides work, how to transport them, the safe disposal of chemicals and the importance of document compliance.

The changes to rodent management legislation were introduced following growing concerns about the impact of second-generation rodenticides on wildlife, particularly predators further up the food chain. Barn Owls, Red Kites and Buzzards were showing accumulated residual poisoning, which was affecting their health and breeding success. The new legislation has been designed to ensure that professional-grade bait is only used by people who understand how to handle poisons and mitigate risks through correct application and disposal.
There are significant benefits to rodent management certification. For instance, the training improves efficiency when managing pests, reducing the volume of wasted bait, and improving the impact of rodenticide when it is used, which will increase overall profit from stock.
