Do delegates need to bring their own brushcutter or strimmer to the course?

Yes. Attendees are required to bring their own equipment, including PPE, the machinery, the operator's handbook and service manual, fuel and tools.

IS NPTC or City and Guilds certification available instead of LANTRA?

Hush Farms can provide NPTC or City and Guilds assessments if they are preferred to a LANTRA certificate. If your employer or organisations you contract for require either of these bodies, please contact us when you book the training to confirm the correct assessment. All three accreditations are compliant with HSE PUWER98 requirements.

Brushcutter Training: Safe Strimmer Operation

Description

This training covers the safe use and maintenance of strimmers and brushcutters for professional operators in grounds maintenance, land management, agriculture and local authority work. This course is suitable for complete beginners through to experienced operators requiring formal certification.

LANTRA Brushcutter Training Course Information

All of our brushcutter and strimmer training courses are recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and are accredited by LANTRA. The qualification provided at the end of this course satisfies compliance with PUWER98 legislation.

Training is available across the South West and Wales, and we tailor our training to your requirements. This means you can visit one of our training locations, or we can come to you and provide training on-site with your equipment.

We can also provide NPTC or City and Guilds certification if this is preferred.

Who is brushcutter training for?

This course is suitable for anyone who uses or will be using a strimmer or brushcutter in the course of their work. This may include council contractors, grounds maintenance teams, estate and park staff or farmers and countryside managers.

Novice Trainees

A two-day beginner brushcutter training course is available for people with little to no experience of handling brushcutters. Contact us here for pricing.

Experienced or Mixed Ability Trainees

This course is a one-day trimmer/brushcutter/strimmer training course for operators who have reasonable prior operating experience.

Independent Assessment Only

If you already have substantial brushcutter experience and knowledge, an independent assessment without the full training course is available at £135pp + VAT.

The Legal Bit

Anyone using abrasive wheels in the workplace must have proof of adequate training from a qualified person. They must also have periodic updates for this training. None of this is optional, either; it's the law, and it applies to volunteers, employed and self-employed people.

A strimmer uses a cutting line usually made from nylon (or sometimes metal) and is best suited to weed trimming and light grass management. A brushcutter is heavy-duty in comparison and can be fitted with a blade or a much heavier line. It is used for brambles, coarse overgrown land or heavy verges. This training covers both, including when to select the correct tool and the differences operators need to be aware of.
