PA2F Weed Wiper Training: Course Information
The Hush Farms PA2F LANTRA and NPTC-accredited weed wiper course provides professional operators with the certification they need to comply with pesticide regulations. This training is separate from the PA2 Boom Sprayer module, and before attending this course, delegates must have completed the PA1 course. If you use boom sprayers, vehicle-mounted weed wipers and hand-held weed wipers, then you will require modules PA1, PA2, PA2F and PA6 before you are fully compliant.
Please note that trainees must be able to read and interpret label information and make the appropriate calculations with a calculator. They must also be certified/competent at operating the vehicle the applicator is attached to, whether that is a tractor or ATV.
Who is this course for?
The PA2F course is for anyone who operates or intends to operate a vehicle-mounted or trailed weed wiper pesticide applicator in their working role. The minimum age to complete this course is 16.
Objectives
-
Prepare a pesticide weed wiper applicator for work, calibrate and operate it to ensure correct application rate without risk to themselves, other people and the environment.
-
Use the information detailed on product labels to determine the approved uses for the product and its potential hazards to human safety, non-target areas and the environment in general.
-
Carry out daily and routine maintenance of the applicator.
-
Carry out the correct procedure for clearing personal protective equipment and application equipment which may have been contaminated with pesticide.
There are a number of methods of calibration that candidates may use, provided that it produces the correct end result.

A packed lunch for the day

The Legal Bit
The law states that anyone who uses or applies pesticides in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, industry, or amenity workplaces must possess a valid Pesticide Certificate in order to comply with regulations. This legislation isn't optional, and it applies to volunteers, employed and self-employed people alike.
There is no longer an exemption in UK law, commonly known as "grandfather rights”. The Plant Protection Products (Sustainable Use) Regulations 2012 exemption ceased to exist from 27th November 2015. Everyone who now uses PPPs authorised for professional use must hold a Certificate of Competence.
Trainees must be over the age of 16 to attend pesticide courses.
About the Hush Farms PA2F weed wiper course
A weed wiper works by directly transferring the pesticide to the leaf of the plant through contact. This allows operators to be more selective about which plants and how concentrated the application of chemicals can be. A weed wiper has an advantage over a boom sprayer because it won’t damage the surrounding crops or plants, but because of its selectiveness, it is not suited to spraying large areas in one pass.
This course provides trainees with the skills needed to correctly calibrate the equipment and ensure it is maintained to prevent pesticide contamination and poor application. Balancing forward speed and herbicide saturation are core topics covered by delegates, and understanding the weather conditions and protective equipment is also important.
This is an excellent introduction and accreditation for employees new to weed wiping, or as a refresher course for anyone who has been qualified for three or four years and needs an update.
