LANTRA Tractor operator training: Course information
Whether you’re new to tractor operation and driving or you have years of experience and want a formal accreditation, Hush Farms’ LANTRA tractor operator course is perfect for you. Every employer is required to ensure that their workers can show they have had professional training on the machinery they are required to use regularly.
This 1-5 day course covers everything HSE requires to show your employees have been competently trained. We can tailor the training to suit the operations normally completed in your workplace, whether that is in agriculture, forestry, municipal management or estates and parks.
Training can be delivered at one of our locations across the South West or at your location.
Who is this course for?
This course can be tailored for beginners, in 3 days or for more experienced drivers in less time. If you or your team are operating tractors in farming, estate management, groundskeeping, sports land maintenance or forestry work, then our training is for you. The minimum age to attend this course is 16 years.

Tractor operation course requirements
If you wish to host training on your own site, then the training will need the following requirements:

A maximum of 2 students per tractor

One tractor with a loader and attachment such as a bucket

A small tipper trailer
-
Material for loading, such as muck or gravel
-
PTO-driven three-point linkage-mounted equipment, such as a topper or fertiliser spreader

A safe area to operate
Trainees will need

A packed lunch

Non-snag clothing appropriate to the weather conditions.A minimum of long sleeves, long trousers, steel-toe cap boots and protective work gloves
Course options and pricing:
Novice trainees – 3 days:
From £410 + VAT per person based on 4 trainees attending the course. Novice tractor operator training involves LANTRA training and assessments (ITA), so a separate test is not required.
Experienced trainees – 1 day:
From £240 + VAT per person, based on 3 trainees attending. As with novice training, assessments are made during the training, so there is no need for a separate test.
Longer tractor operator training courses:
We can provide a more extensive tractor operator training session. This training lasts 5 days – please contact us for more information.

Travel fees
Please note that travel fees will apply if training is provided on your site within the South West and Wales.
Prices Shown Include:
LANTRA registration and certificate. Travel fees are extra if we are visiting your location.
Please note: All trainees must be a minimum of 16 years old to participate in this training.
The Legal Bit
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) states that employers must ensure that anyone operating a tractor or equipment must be able to prove they have received adequate training from a qualified instructor. LANTRA training is accredited to comply with HSE standards.
About the Hush Farms Tractor Operator Training Course
This course is designed around the practical driving and operation of tractors on farms, in woodland or forest and off-road locations. Training includes tractor preparation and pre-start checks, then progresses through driving techniques, on public highways, off-road and across uneven ground. Delegates will also learn how to hitch and manoeuvre trailers and mounted implements, learn how to safely adjust and operate PTO driven implements, and perform simple loader work.
We tailor the training to suit the learning styles and the level of experience of the candidates, and assessment is integrated into the training sessions rather than a separate test. Our flexible training structure means you can take as long as you need to learn the skills required to competently operate tractors in a working environment. Extensive training is available over five days, beginner training takes three days, and experienced operators can gain accreditation during a one-day session.
