Course Information – Felling and Processing Trees Over 380mm
Felling timber above 380mm requires more planning and specialist skills than working with smaller trees. The margin for error is smaller, which means safety is of utmost importance. A higher degree of preparation and decision making is required from chainsaw operators, and our training is tailored to provide attendees with the necessary skills.
Our chainsaw felling and processing course provides trainees with a LANTRA certificate for advanced chainsaw felling. NPTC CS32 certification can be arranged, if required, for an additional fee. We can also provide chainsaw refresher courses for professionals looking to remain compliant with updated regulations.

The Legal Bit
The law states that anyone who uses a chainsaw in the workplace must have proof of adequate training from a qualified person to operate the machine safely, in appropriate conditions. Your chainsaw training must also be periodically updated. This legislation applies to everyone – volunteers, employed or self-employed alike.
About the Hush Farms Felling and Processing Over 380mm Training
Timber over 380mm in diameter can behave erratically and become dangerous when being felled or processed. Trees of this size will feature instability from directional leans or irregular weights from the crown or branches. This will affect the position of the cut or the direction the tree will fall when sawn. The equipment required is also more technical, with longer bar lengths and higher-capacity saws needed for thicker trunks.
This course has been designed to provide comprehensive training on all of these required skills, and our instructors will focus on how to work safely, plan felling projects, and how to manage and mitigate risks before starting work.
This course lasts three days and meets HSE requirements for workplace chainsaw use. This course is Integrated Training Assessed, which means the examination is built into the training and ongoing, rather than a separate session. If you require NPTC CS31 certification, then we can provide this for an additional charge.
We do our best to be flexible, and our training is tailored to your needs. You’re welcome to come and complete your chainsaw training courses at one of our sites in East Devon, or Mid-Wales, or we'll come to a venue near you in the South West and throughout the UK. Plus, we’ll fit the course around your schedule. Just let us know your most convenient times.
